Natural Gas Home Heating & HVAC

The clean, cozy warmth of natural gas. High-efficiency natural gas heating systems keep you warm and comfortable on the coldest days. New natural gas heating systems are up to 97 percent efficient. That is important, because during the coldest months, a heating system may operate up to 15 hours a day. Since space heating accounts for nearly half of your annual gas usage, increasing heating-system efficiency is the single most effective way to reduce your gas bill. And you’ll feel more comfortable than ever too. Homes heated with natural gas all feel alike — warm and draft free. An electric heat pump just can not match the warmth and comfort of an efficient natural gas heating system. There are several types of natural gas heating systems: Forced-Air System: This is the most common type of system in the United States. It uses natural gas burners to heat air. The hot air is then .forced. through duct work by a blower or fan. Hydronic System: These systems have a gas boiler that creates steam or hot water, which is then circulated through the home through pipes or tubes. Hydronic systems use baseboard components, radiators or radiant tubing built into the floor. Ductless Systems: Requiring no chimney or ductwork, some models will provide supplemental heat in a room, while others will provide complete heating for an individual room, zone of rooms or even an entire house. Combo Systems: These systems combine heating, water heating and sometimes cooling into one system.

Biofuel For Home Heating Success In UK

A new liquid biofuel for home heating has successfully passed a one year field test in the UK. Organizers say the biofuel could cut carbon emissions from the 1.8 million homes in Britain currently using oil rather than gas. Reepham in the east of England is not only off the beaten track – it’s also off the national gas grid. Like nearly two million other Britons, Reepham’s residents heat their homes using oil – but they at the vanguard of a green revolution. James Joyce owns one of 25 homes in the town that have been testing a new renewable heating oil for use in existing domestic systems. [James Joyce, Trial Participant]: “They put a new tank in here and filled it up with biofuel and it ran for a year and to be honest there’s absolutely no problems at all.” The trial tested fuels made from kerosene and diesel mixed with differing amounts of used cooking oil – produced at the University of East Anglia’s Low Carbon Innovation Centre. [Chris Blincoe, Low Carbon Innovation Center]: “There are opportunities out there for using home heating oil as a biofuel and its just a clear opportunity for those homes that, at the moment have oil-fired heating systems, they want to be lower carbon. Its a real opportunity for them to do that.” The Oil Firing Technical Association helped organize the trial. [Jeremy Hawksley, Oil Firing Technical Association]: “They were better really, I mean there were lots of factors we were concerned of, particularly cold weather because biofuel tends to

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Co-generation Home Heating Concept Test

Hydrogen fuel cell co-generation home heating system, small unit proof of concept using off the shelf parts. A fuel cell is about 45% efficient at generating electricity, so for 1 kilowatt of electrical power produced approximately 1 kilowatt of heat is produce by the fuel cell stack. As a by-product, water is produced as well. This video demonstrates heating of my 20 foot boat while charging its battery bank and then heating of a 200 square foot room in my home using a small 500 watt oil filled electric heater to control the system.

Sorry Genesis fans, didn’t mean to have the crappy Phil Collins play in the back ground…Pandora caught me with the cam in my hand!
